Landscaping Foreman / Irrigation Technician
Landscape & Irrigation Lead
Company: The Grounds Guys of Rapid City
Compensation: $23.00 – $30.00+ per hour (DOE)
Growth: Pay-for-Performance & Benefit opportunities
Position Type: Full-Time, Year-Round Leadership
The Opportunity: Lead with Technical Expertise
Are you a landscape leader with a "blue-collar PhD" in irrigation? At The Grounds Guys of Rapid City, we are looking for a hybrid leader—someone who can manage a landscape crew while serving as our go-to expert for sprinkler systems and water management.
This is a role for a high-level technician who wants to lead. You’ll be responsible for ensuring our landscape installs are top-tier and our irrigation systems are dialed in perfectly. If you have the technical "know-how" and the leadership "can-do," we want to talk to you.
Is This You?
- The Specialist: You understand hydraulics, clocks, and valves. You take pride in diagnosing complex issues that others miss.
- The Leader: You aren't just a tech working solo; you’re a Lead who knows how to motivate a crew and keep a jobsite profitable.
- The Communicator: You are the bridge. You can explain a broken zone to a homeowner just as clearly as you can explain a task to your crew or an update to the Owner.
- The Problem Solver: You see a dry spot on a lawn or a leak in a manifold as a puzzle you can’t wait to solve correctly.
Your Responsibilities
- Irrigation Excellence: Lead the installation, startup, winterization, and repair of residential and commercial sprinkler systems.
- Manage the Field: Act as the "boots on the ground" lead for landscaping projects, ensuring quality control and equipment maintenance.
- System Troubleshooting: Diagnose electrical and hydraulic issues and provide efficient, long-lasting repair solutions.
- Crew Coordination: Keep your team organized, on task, and working safely. You are responsible for the daily output and morale of your crew.
- Client & Vendor Interaction: Work directly with customers to explain irrigation needs and upgrades, and coordinate with vendors for parts and supplies.
- Daily Prep: Ensure your specialized irrigation tools and landscape equipment are ready to roll every morning.
How We Measure Success
- Technical Accuracy: Minimizing return visits by getting the repair or install right the first time.
- System Integrity: Ensuring all irrigation work meets our high standards for water efficiency and reliability.
- Efficiency (Budget vs. Actual): Managing your crew’s time effectively to keep projects on track and profitable.
- Communication: Keeping the Owner and Sales Rep informed of project status and any necessary changes in the field.
- Software Utilization: Accurately logging parts used and time spent via our digital platforms.
Job Requirements
- Irrigation Expertise: Proven experience in irrigation repair, maintenance, and installation.
- Leadership Experience: Background in leading crews in landscaping, irrigation, or a similar service industry.
- Communication Skills: Excellent ability to communicate with the Owner, colleagues, clients, and vendors.
- Machinery Proficiency: Skilled in operating equipment (trenchers, skid steers) and performing basic maintenance.
- Certifications: Willingness to obtain any required backflow or irrigation licenses within the first 6 months.
- Logistics: Clean driving history with experience towing trailers.
Why Join Us?
- Competitive Pay: $23.00 – $30.00+ per hour, depending on technical skill and leadership ability.
- Performance Upside: Opportunity for pay-for-performance bonuses based on efficiency and quality.
- Year-Round Stability: No seasonal layoffs—we keep our experts working through every season.
- Career Growth: As our irrigation division expands, so does your potential for advancement.
