Landscape Crew Lead - Install | $20-25/hr

Pay: $20.00–$23.00 per hour (Based on Experience)

The Grounds Guys of Northwest San Antonio is looking for an experienced Landscape Install Crew Lead to join our growing team.

We're looking for someone who already has solid landscape installation experience and is ready to take the next step into leadership. You don't need to know everything on day one—we're looking for someone who can lead by example, learn our systems, take increasing ownership of projects, and develop into a strong landscape installation leader as our company grows.

This is a hands-on position. You'll work alongside the crew while helping organize the jobsite, keep projects moving efficiently, and ensure our work meets our quality standards.

Pay starts at $20.00–$23.00 per hour based on experience and demonstrated ability. We offer weekly pay, year-round work, overtime opportunities, professional equipment, hands-on training, and opportunities for increased responsibility and advancement.

Our installation projects include sod, decorative rock, mulch, steel edging, irrigation, drainage, trees, shrubs, landscape beds, and complete landscape renovations for residential and commercial properties.

Typical Schedule

• Monday–Friday
• Start time: 7:00 AM
• Occasional overtime as needed

Responsibilities

Crew & Jobsite Leadership

• Work alongside and help lead a landscape installation crew
• Review project scopes and understand the work to be completed
• Help organize crew members, tools, equipment, and materials
• Assign and coordinate daily tasks as directed
• Keep the crew productive and projects moving efficiently
• Monitor project progress and communicate questions, issues, or material needs to management
• Help ensure projects stay within estimated labor hours
• Maintain clean, organized, and professional jobsites
• Inspect work for quality and accuracy
• Help train crew members on proper installation techniques and equipment use
• Follow and reinforce company safety procedures
• Communicate professionally with customers when needed
• Take increasing ownership of projects as experience and ability are demonstrated

Landscape Installation

• Install trees, shrubs, flowers, ornamental grasses, and sod
• Install mulch, decorative rock, steel edging, and other landscape materials
• Build and renovate landscape beds
• Perform grading and site preparation
• Assist with irrigation installation and repairs
• Load, unload, and transport tools, equipment, and materials
• Safely operate trucks, trailers, skid steers, and commercial landscaping equipment as qualified

What We're Looking For

• 2+ years of professional landscaping experience preferred
• Strong landscape installation experience
• Previous crew leadership experience is preferred but not required for the right candidate
• Desire and ability to grow into greater leadership responsibility
• Ability to understand instructions, project scopes, and installation plans
• Strong work ethic and dependable attendance
• Ability to lead by example and work alongside the crew
• Good organization and time-management skills
• Takes pride in producing high-quality work
• Willingness to learn and accept coaching
• Ability to identify problems in the field and communicate them to management
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
• Ability to legally and safely operate company vehicles
• Experience driving a truck and trailer preferred
• Experience operating commercial landscape equipment and skid steers is a plus

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift 50 pounds or more
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Frequent bending, kneeling, lifting, standing, and walking
• Ability to safely operate commercial landscaping equipment
• Ability to perform physically demanding landscape installation work throughout the workday
